Pet Gift Guide – Blogmas

You had to have known that a pet gift guide was coming, didn’t you? I personally leave Brie’s Christmas present shopping until the last minute. I tend to pop into one of our local pet stores and purchase from them in-store. I love the staff at our Bones Pet Store and they carry all of Brie’s favourites snacks. Well, the ones that aren’t cheese, yam and salmon straight from the kitchen 😉

If you’ve already purchased gifts for your pet, I applaud you. We live in a small space, which is even more difficult right now with no closets for me to store and hide her presents on. I am doing this for both cats and dogs as I do have a fur nephew to purchase for. How I’ll get his present there, I don’t know yet 😉

Pet Gift Guide – Cat Edition

Cat Gift Idea - Feather ToyBird teaser toy with feathers

Maui is my sister’s cat, and when I’m visiting he can be very swat happy. I can be very good at distracting him with his feather toy and helping release some of his craziness. I mean, if the dog is there, his preference is to swat her instead of the toys.

Perch for window

What cat or dog doesn’t love to stare out the window?? I mean, Brie is a highrise dog so she does her window watching when she’s at my aunt’s house. However, my sister’s cat Maui used to sit on the windowsill staring at the cat across from them.

So they chose to get Maui a window perch so he could be completely comfortable. Do our pets live a life of luxury? Yes, they do. Are they appreciative? Not as much as they should be 😉

Elevated food bowls

This one works for both cats and dogs, but for the longest time, Maui had his water bowl and wet food bowl elevated on a box. I mean, we all know cats love boxes, so it all works out. However, not everyone wants a box hosting their cat dishes. Elevate your cat food and water bowl and make it purrrrrrty.

I love this one because it’s a cleaner aesthetic, and it’s shaped like a cat head. I mean, come onnnnnn.

Towered ball track toy

Want to drive your cat insane and get them to burn some energy? A great gift for your cat would be this 3-level track toy with spinning balls. The spinning balls can stimulate your cats hunting instincts and hopefully refrain from them scratching your walls and/or furniture.

Especially helpful for those transitioning back to in-office work, so your cat(s) will have more alone time. They’ll be entertained and occupied while you’re away. Also, a great toy for households with more than one cat so they can play together.

Fish-shaped toy

Catnip + fish?! I mean, I don’t think you can ask for a better combination. I’ve seen Maui swat at phones and iPads when there’s fish on there.

Matabi Chew Sticks

Stick form catnip that helps control plaque and tartar? I love when you can give a treat to a pet and it helps with their dental hygiene. It’s a present for both of us! Matabi is a natural plant that is safe for cats and can help them feel more calm and relaxed.

Interactive Feather Game

Cats love to hunt, and they definitely love to swat things (and people). Give them the ultimate gift to cure their hunting curiosity with this interactive game. The feathers will pop out in random spots and will activate their hunting skills. This comes with two different speed settings and is powered by triple A batteries.

Pet Gift Guide – Dog Edition

Lick Mat For Bathtub

Looking to find something your dog will love but will help you get them in the bathtub? We have a Wheaten Terrier, and she is such a drama queen when she has to have a bath. If she stopped playing in the mud and the pond, then maybe she wouldn’t spend as much time getting partial or full baths.

Suction one of these lick mats to your tub/shower and when it’s bath time, add some peanut butter and let them lick it all up.

Chuck It Ball and Thrower

Do you have a dog that loves to play fetch? We have a dog that likes to run after the ball, maybe parade around with a ball that doesn’t belong to her, but she doesn’t fetch. However, she’s the only dog I have ever owned that hasn’t enjoyed a game of fetch.

Extend your throw with the Chuck It ball and launcher, allowing you to throw further and ultimately get your dog running around more. Expel that energy!

Memory Foam Dog Bed

Give your dog their own personal gift of luxury.  If your dog is like ours and doesn’t spend time in their crate, you can get your pet their own personal memory foam sofa dog bed. If your dog spends time in their crate, make it luxurious with a memory foam mat that tucks inside their crate. Especially as they get older, they deserve to chill out in style.

Donut shaped Bed For AnxietyPet Gift Ideas - Donut Bed For Anxiety

Have a pup that tends to get a little anxious, and needs a good spot to chill out? These donut-shaped beds are great at helping dogs with their anxiety.

This type of bed comes with a raised rim which helps the dog with head and neck support which allows them to sleep a little more soundly. Maui had a similar type of bed that was purchased for him by his grandma. When we were helping them pack up before their big move, Brie found it and claimed it as her own. She never noticed it when were in Calgary though …maybe it was still packed.

Treat Puzzle

We got Brie a treat puzzle last Christmas, and she loves it. It is something we forgot to bring with us when we were out of our condo dealing with the flood, and as soon as we got back, Brie saw the box and became very demanding. The one we got Brie was the My Intelligent Pet Birthday Cake. You can find it through My Intelligent Pets, and it may even be in a local pet store, but it is currently out of stock on Amazon.

Christmas Jammies

Pet Gift Guide - Christmas JammiesWe don’t dress up our dog – heck, we live in one of the rainiest areas and she doesn’t even have a raincoat. I mean, honestly, I just don’t think it’s worth it. I do think dogs look cute in them though. What Brie does have, is some Christmas jammies and she LOVES them. You can snag a pair from Amazon like these cute fleece ones, or you can head to a local boutique pet store and find the perfect pair for your dog.

I do recall getting Brie’s at Petsmart, but when I was just there, I didn’t see any in-store, but they are online.

Elevated Food Bowls

We found that Brie had a higher chance of getting “the gulpies” when her food and water bowl were on the ground. When we raised her bowls, she was eating better and there was less strain on her neck. With so many different options available now, you can find a set of elevated bowls to suit any aesthetic such as this one from PetSmart.

 Gift Guide Wrap Up

Honestly, if I just wrapped tissue paper into balls, I think Brie would be happy. She loves to shred all the tissue paper all day long. Brie’s favourite present currently stands as the puzzle. Prior to that was a gift that we hid after she got it because it’s loud and would bother the neighbours downstairs. We should’ve just left it for her to play with at my aunt’s house.

I do love buying gifts for pets, even if it is just something as simple as a treat. Of course, I always add a couple of cute Christmas-type toys that we know won’t last very long, but she always gets so excited to demolish something. Terriers, I tell ya!
