Self-Care For Valentines Day

Who needs a partner for valentines day, when you can do what your heart desires without anyone complaining? A day spent focusing on your partner when you honestly should be doing that throughout the year, but instead focused on YOU! This goes for anyone – single or coupled – because not everyone enjoys Valentine’s day, or their partner travels for work so they’re not around. Instead of focusing on your partner not being around for one day, focus on you.

Valentines Day: Self-Care Edition

We all need a little extra self-care or self-love, so here are some things that I came up with to help you treat yourself this year.

Spa Day

Now, I am writing this in 2022, which means we’re still in “unprecedented times” so going to a spa may not be in the cards. But you can have a spa day at home, no problem. Easier for those of us without kids, but still doable either way.

Obviously, we’d all prefer to be pampered in a soothing spa, so if that’s an option for you, I say go for it. Sure, spas are typically offering couples packages, but don’t let that deter you from indulging in your own self-care. Better yet, bring your bestie.

Bonus is that if either of you has kids, you both get a little escape.

A spa day can be done at home as well. I do this by soaking my feet in some hot water, Epsom salts & essential oil with a mud mask on my face. After I’m done soaking my feet and washing off the mask, I grab my hand and foot mittens from Sephora (always a good stocking stuffer idea) and pop those on. I’m a runner, they need all the love they can get 😉 Sometimes I’ll put another mask on my face – the sheet masks which I also get from Sephora.

After that’s done, I’ll paint my toes, put on new nails and cozy up with a book.

Oh, and there’s always a glass of red wine involved.

Solo Sip & Paint

Painting – or drawing of any kind – is not my forte, but I have friends who have done this and loved it. Self-care involves doing things that make you happy, and that’s why this is on the list. If you’re artsy and love to be creative, this is the thing for you!

Luxury Purchase

If you’ve had your eye on something in the luxury sector, such as a pair of shoes or a handbag, what better time to purchase it? When luxury products make you happy, and you’ve got enough saved up, go for it. If it makes your heart happy, it’s the perfect kind of self-care for a solo Valentine’s day.

Flowers, Takeout & A Movie

Who says your partner has to buy you flowers and take you out? Grab yourself some flowers, or get them delivered to you to make it extra fancy, grab yourself some takeout and enjoy a movie or movies of your choice.

A night where you get to eat your favourite takeout AND choose the movie(s)? Name me a better Valentine’s day. In fact, name me a better day/night ever!

Solo Getaway

Getting out of town, even just for a night, is good for the soul. Whether you’re in a cabin, air BnB, or a hotel – choose what makes you most happy, and escape town for a mental health break. Self-care is always needed – so do this whenever.

Dinner With A Friend

Want to get out on Valentine’s day with a friend? No harm in that. Especially since if you sit in the bar area and you’ll have chatty bartenders to make friends with, and they’re always fun to talk to. If you’re single, perhaps you’ll find yourself a future date. No pressure though – let it happen naturally.

Bubblebath, Drink & Book/Movie

In my ideal world, a bubble bath, glass of wine and a movie or housewives binge is always on my self-care list. If you have a hot tub, you can do that as well. I took full advantage of the hot tub at our temporary rental last year. The warmth helps relax you, in my opinion anyway.

Breaking The Mold of Valentine’s Day

In all honesty, we don’t really celebrate Valentine’s day. I mean, we used to but when we’d go out to dinner the table turnover times were insane and we felt very rushed. Plus, it’s my dads’ birthday and even though we don’t see him unless we’re visiting down there this time of year; if I have to remember one thing, that’s going to be it. Trust me, I’m the worst at dates and remembering.
